Where are Classes?

Classes and lessons are held in the historic Balmain Gospel Chapel at City Light Church, 482 Darling St Balmain. Situated right in the heart of Balmain we are just 5 mins walk from Victoria Rd and parking is free along Darling St near the building.

What do I wear?

We do not have an official uniform at Local Dance Co Balmain. We recognise that each of our students have their own personality and style and we want our students to be comfortable during class.

Some suggestions for each age group are:

LITTLE MOVERS (3-5)

Skirts and tutus are acceptable as long as they do not go past the knee.

Leotards, tights, singlets, t-shirt, bike pants are perfect for the movement we will be doing.

Day dresses, sneakers, sandals, long skirts are not appropriate for these classes.

YOUNG MOVERS (5-12)

Any form of active wear is perfect for your child to wear to class. Leotards, tights, shorts, leggings, singlets, t-shirts are perfect for our classes. Please no crop tops.

Sneakers are best for the Hip Hop class.

Black Jazz shoes are best for the regular classes on a Thursday afternoon and for Musical Theatre. We recommend Jazz shoes for these classes are they are designed to provide enough traction and grip for the dancer to feel secure whilst still allowing freedom to easily turn and slide and point their toe. Sneakers are often too bulky and doesn't allow for flexibility in the sole. Bare feet are acceptable until you purchase jazz shoes.

For student safety please drop your child off through the main doors of the church into the church hall into the care of the teacher or assistant. When your child’s class is finished please pick them up from the main doors at the hall or wait in the foyer. We do not want any of our students walking onto darling street unaccompanied

Can I WATCH CLASSES?

Parents are welcome to watch their child’s very first lesson, however following that we respectfully request that unless otherwise stated parents and siblings do not attend classes.

In our Little Movers class parents/carers of children remain outside the hall and watch from the back rooms. We understand that some children are not quite ready to leave their parents just yet. If for the first lesson you need to be with your child the parents/carers will be required to participate in the class, please do not sit off on the side and watch.

Do You offer refunds?

Term fees must be paid by the end of the first week of term to secure your child’s place.
